Cosmetic circumcision

Cosmetic circumcision is a surgical removal of the foreskin (the fold of skin covering the tip of the penis) done for aesthetic or personal reasons, rather than for medical or religious purposes.

Purpose / Indications:

  • To improve the appearance of the penis

  • For personal hygiene preference

  • To achieve a more uniform or smooth look

  • To correct minor foreskin irregularities (like asymmetry or excess skin)

  • Sometimes requested for partner preference or cultural reasons

Procedure:

  • Performed under local or general anesthesia

  • The foreskin is surgically removed using scalpel, scissors, or laser

  • The edges are stitched neatly for a clean cosmetic appearance

  • Usually done as an outpatient procedure (same-day discharge)

Benefits:

  • Improved cosmetic appearance

  • Easier to maintain penile hygiene

  • Decreased risk of some infections (UTI, balanitis)

Risks / Complications:

  • Pain, swelling, or bleeding after surgery

  • Infection at the surgical site

  • Scarring or uneven appearance

Aftercare:

  • Keep the area clean and dry

  • Avoid sexual activity for 4–6 weeks

  • Use prescribed antibiotics or painkillers if needed
